Evaluation Q7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the finished product?
From the time of starting the preliminary task to now we have learnt a lot of different things for example we have learnt how to use different things together. For example we have learnt to incorporate lights camera angles and sounds together at the same time in one clip. For example in the preliminary task I feel that it was very stop and start. Where as in our final thriller I feel it has a good steady flow to it. Also that it gives different effects and shows different kinds of emotions in it, also it has multiple story lines for example you need to think a lot more in this one. Whereas in the preliminary takes we gave you the story and what is happening straight away.
Some of the skills we have gained are things like. Finding the correct position and angle for the camera to give maximum effect when someone is watching it. I myself have also learnt how to edit better and add more effects to give a different effect. One thing I was hoping to learn about is the colour of the film. For example we can create a different effect. If we use a grey colour correction on the torture scene it would have made a gloomy atmosphere.
We have also learnt certain skills like editing. This has helped us because we have been able to use this throughout the process of this year. When we started our editing was a lot more sloppy and not fast paced. However when we go to our final thriller we was able to incorporate different things in out editing. For example we could start to use fast paced cuts that made our film a lot more effective, because of this editing it will reel in the viewer and they will not be able to stop watching because of the suspense.
When we done our first piece of coursework what was the camera angle assignment we were not able to find the best angles to place the camera and it made the film not as effective as some of the angles we could have used, but now because we are able to find effective angles this also adds a sample of emotion to the film because, from the angles we choose it shows different things. For example if we done a shot of a mysterious person we would do an angle that only shows the bottom of their face with the rest covered by something like a hood.
Also from the start of the year our blogs posts were not as good as they are now, this is because over time our writing skills have improved. This is because we are able to add more detail in short paragraphs this has lead to us being able to get more points across in short sentences.
Also we have gotten a lot better with things like, choosing music to fit the mood of the film. This has also helped us improve at different sound techniques to use in certain moments of the film. For example we have got a lot better at editing in a punching sound effect so it is timed perfectly with the connection of the punch.

Enigma
An enigma is usually where something is suggested to the audience but it is not fully explained. It can also be a question that is not immediately answered and is left a mystery until the reveal what is usually at the end of the film. For example we may see something at the start of the film, like someone throwing a briefcase into the river. The enigma here is us not knowing the identity og the person and we do not know the contents of the briefcase. We suggest to ourselves that it could be drugs, money or a bomb. These are the most typical ideas yet it could be anything.

Certification/Classification
These are the guidelines of films for example. Classifications is the age guidelines of films. If there was not any age guidelines in films then children would be going to films they could have a very bad effect on them.
These are all of the age classifications:

Vox Populi
Vix populi can also be shortened down to vox pop. This is when you go to a random location and ask a random group of people. This is also known as "Voice of the people". You will go and gather a fair amount of people to ask questions to. This is because the people you are asking do not know who you are so there is no way for them to make a biased opinion on what you are doing.

Analysis of film title.
With our film titles we kept in mind that we would need to try to keep it short and fast paced. This is why instead of cutting to black each time to show a different name we decided that we would play names while the thriller was playing in the background. This gave us more time to fit in all the names.
We done it in the normal order that we was told except instead of putting the title in the middle of the names, we put it at the end after "Directed By Danny Boylan".
Rough Copy
This is our close to finished version of our Thriller. We still need to tweak a few things like the titles and sound effects and music times and how loud it is. As a group we think we have done well to produce this. The full finished version should be on here by 12/02/2014.
Studio Idents.
This is the paramount logo. It is quick and has developed over the years of the production company. It is short and represents their name of the company. It also shows the film is by paramount and gives then there own unique logo.

Effect of the Title Sequence.
I have researched what the title sequence is for. It is mainly for the reason to et across who is in the film what they do and who done it.
For example the expendables opening credits show every character and gives a rough idea of their personality and responsibility.
The title sequence also a lot of the time will give the film its own personal identity. This means that the film will be unique and it is trying to set it aside from the rest of the films that you watch.
It can also tell us the period of time it is going to be set in and also a slight idea of where it is going to be set as well.
One other very important role that the titles can play in film is setting a mood. If you are having an action thriller film then you would want your title sequence to be fast passed and very up front and quick. For example

Sound effects
We have not used to many sound effects. This is because there were not as many points in the video were we needed to use them.
However one point where we did use them was the scene when I was shot in the stomach. We added a gunshot sound but we did not need a flash of the bang because we blocked the gun with my body so it is off-screen sound as well as using it.
We may still add some other sound like police sirens so the killer knows he needs to leave.

Music used.
The music we used was called:
Epic Suspenseful Action Music Instrumental #2 Dramatic Intense Heroic Movie / Film Soundtracks
We needed to ask premission to use this, so I quickly sent an e-mail to the owner of the song just in case. Even though we was already able to use it. This is because int he description of another video he made called "copyrigt claim on my music". It said in the description You may use my music if it is in a non profit video. SO I still sent an email to get confirmation what was given the thumbs up.
Plus we still ahve the right to fair use seeign as we are using this for non profit.

Targert Audience
We decided as a group that our target audience would mostly appeal to males between the ages of 15-25. We have rated out film a 15 because it has violence and some bad language but is not too explict.
However we feel it will appeal to both genders it will mostly appeal to men.
From our audience research we found out that a lot of people have a lot of different opinions on film. The most voted film genres were comedy and Thriller.
Most people watch films at home or in the cinema. At home can be from a lot of different things. It seems like mostly people watch them on DVDs.
People do not go to the cinema a lot from our research it seems like its mostly once a month.
People seem to not have a favorite type of film or the type of story lines. By the answers it seems like exciting films.
By the story line of kidnapping most people say if it was exciting and fast paced it would be good.

Second day of filimg!
The second day of filming took palce in a mekmber of our groups shed.
It took palce in the shed because it had the right atmosphere and it looked like soemthing that suited the mood.
maintain continuity by making sure the costume was the same and we managed to fully complete all of our filming.

This is where the filming took palce at first this was the location that we had to travel to. That day the weather was good and sunny the same as it was on our first day of filming. In my opinion I would have perfered if it was raining because it would have created a better atmosphere.
These were some of the shots we was able to take in the room. As you can see form the picture it is quite messy and un organized so this gave the feeling of mystery.
The stool in the room was where I was sitting and was being shouted at by Matas (Group Member).
This picture is showing the different tools that we was going to use to threaten me and get me to answer things.
While we was recording we change a few things around. The problem with doing this is that we had to re do the storyboard and animatic.
Audience Research!
On Thursday while we was editing the last parts of out Thriller trailer.
Ellese had decided to do an audience research. She had brought the camera into school with her and film some people asking them the questions;
What is our favorite genre?
How often do you visit the cinema?
How do you usually watch films?
What story lines attract you?
What do you think about a narrative that surrounds kidnapping?
We will put this into final cut express and upload to youtube and then put this on our blogs!

Production Company Name
We called our Production company name. HamProductions.
If we are being honest there is not one specific reason for calling ourselves this. It is simply because this was the name of my youtube channel that I used to upload videos on before I started media studies.
So we decided that it was the easy choose of a name and we felt that it stuck quite well anyway.
This is some of the art I have made for my channel before and we thought that we could possibly use this for something in our thriller.
I have now made some new art for the thriller.
I have made a lot of art for my channel and the thriller this is because I enjoy editing and it is one of my main past times.

First day of filming!

.jpg)
The first day of filming included us having to wake up very early and meet outside of Robert Clack. The location we choose stayed the same as how we recorded is on our location sheet what was Hainult forest. It was about an 50 minutes of a journey to get there. We had to make sure everything was in order for us to go and film there otherwise our recording may have been not as good quality as we wanted to be. In my own opinion I would have liked it to be slightly raining. I felt this would have added to the effect of the video. This is because we wanted it to be slightly dark. This is why in the editing process I may added some colour correction to give more of an effect.
We did manage to finish the whole first sequence of recording this was the chase scene. I think we all hoped that it would have been slightly longer but this shouldn't matter. One of the main problems that we had during filming was that it was very muddy around where we was recording. So we have a lot of shots of us falling over. Some shots were harder to get during the recording for example the crane shot we had to scale up a tree and hold the camera up. Others were a lot easier for example the POV shot was easy to do.

Font Analysis
The font that we will be using for this project is going to be simple.
This is mainly to make sure that our thriller is not over thought. So it will be like this font but possibly without as many flicks on the letters and slightly more bold to make the words seem more powerful and more overpowering.
We will possibly use this text it is called "Boris Black Bloxx". We have chosen this font because it is simple yet gives a good effect, because of the boldness and intensity of it.

Dreams of a Life - Evaluation and Film Communities
Dreams of a Life was a documentary about a women called Joyce Vincent who when found had been dead for a whole three years in her flat. It was never reported until found and no one checked on her for all of those three years.
The reason for the making of this film/ documentary was that it was showing how people are forgotten so easily. It is also trying to say. "Would anyone miss you?".
The reason we did watch this though was to see how English films are not as successful as the big budget Hollywood thrillers. We spoke and discussed the possible reason and some that arouse between people was that documentaries for isn't the types of films that is the mos popular genre in this society as much as it used to be. A lot of people want to watch thrilling and exciting thriller or very scary jump scare movies now a days.
Another reason that we thought maybe why this film had a lot of trouble getting in the cinemas was because it did not have to reputation of the films that are being made in Hollywood.
One of the best film communities in the world is in France this is because a lot of cinemas have agreed to show 70% French films this is so they can keep their film community alive however in the UK we just have mostly American block buster films and rarely are able to see a good English film anymore. We know this because Dreams of a Life was not shown in cinemas much after the release date.

Film Title Sequence Evaluation .
This film is called 8 mile. It is about a rapper in a very violent area. He is known by all of the people in the area by a low person who lives in a trailer with his mum. He is known by this because when he took part in a competition he choked and ran of the stage.
He then competes in the next competition of this and what's to gain respect. So he ends up going up against a rival rap gang that also try to force him to not show up because they know he is better than them.
The title sequence of this film is very simple it shows the actors and directors of the film. The video in the background is showing the main characters room to show the type of life he actually lives.
It shows he is very un-organized and it looks like his room is full of posters that are famous singers and rappers that he wants to grow up to be. So the visual background is trying to how us what his life is and how music has effected his life.
The way the text appears is very simple this could be for different reasons for example its trying to show how it is a simple film that has a good simple story that is easy to follow. The effect that is used on the text is too make the title sequence flow better.

Paramount Ident.
This is paramount's ident they will change the music in the background to suit the type of film it is for example, if the film is sad it could be more slow and mysterious music. If it is going to be a quite happy and exciting film then the music is going to be a lot more upbeat. This has been improved over a long time as graphic features have been made better and better programs can be used to make these. For example Paramount would have probably made this ident on after effects cs6. This is one of the main editing programs used now a days.
The ident is to show the logo of the company and what represents them. Every company has one of these for example pixar use just the word pixar then a lamp jumps on top of the I to replace the I.
Past Student Thriller Analysis.
The Thriller I have choose to look at is called Independent Law. This is by the students:
Shelby-Jane Prentice,
Emma Sofianou,
Ahmed Sayed.
First Impressions by the title I would say it is probably a thriller about one person or a group of people that are going against the law for example maybe bank robbing or mugging people.
I have now watched the thriller. It is about a person who seems like they are a murderer or a cereal killer. I'm not sure if they have killed more than one person but it seemed like there was a reason behind the killing.
It could have been anything because when one of the people was killed the killer said. "You have one more chance". We do not know what he done wrong the first time or who the murderer is.
They used a good amount of techniques in the film. For example the back light when the victim is pinned in the corner. This is because we can see the killer but the person who was killed stays a mystery to us.
This was made by, Zoe Hunter, Perry Ramsey, Naima Khanom and Faustas Munikas.
My first impressions by the title are giving me the feelings that it is going to be about a stalker that follows people around at night. That they are vulnerable and alone.
Now that I have watched the thriller I now know that it was indeed about a random man following people around, but it didn't seem like the man knew what he was doing he seemed "brain dead" and maybe psychopathic.
They used a very good range of techniques for example when they were in the car and the man appeared in the mirror. Also what helped this scene to really be suspenseful was the music it builds up more and more until the final scene in the car. We have a slight hope that the women will get away but the screen goes black and the music stops this signify's that it is the end for the women and there is no chance for her.
This was made by Angela Chinnick, Rory Kennedy, Joe Barwick.
My first impression from the title is that it is going to be about someone betraying someone else. We don't exactly know the type of betrayal or why it has happens.
In this thriller it seems as if a mystery man has drug one of the boys drinks. We do not at this moment know the reason for why he has drug the persons drink but it is most likely to get revenge on them for a specific reason.
They used a good amount of shots in the video to express different moments and also the music in the background is at first upbeat and happy, but as we see the boy has been drugged and he is sat in a chair tied up it gets a lot slower and sinister.
The Manchurian Candidate Analysis
This film is about a former war veteran who does not know about his famous crew. The story is basically about him trying to remember what happened to his crew. He remembers being in a big plain white room with his crew but he does not remember what happened after this.
Only two soldiers returned from that room one of them was Shaw he is known to have saved the platoon multiple times in combat. People think of him as a warm and kind man but deep down some people know that he is actually cold heartened.
As he starts to remember the story starts to unfold and we understand that Shaw was actually hypnotized by a man and he was ordered to kill his platoon except one of man.
These people are hypnotizing him to test if the technique actually works.
Raymond Shaw is then sent to kill a man but this man manages to stop Shaw by verbally drilling into his by saying things like. "The Queen of diamonds has no power over you". This is because when he was hypnotized he was told to worship the queen of diamonds and that is his true ruler. The man saying these things seemed to not have worked.
He was then told to carry out an assassination to kill the nominee called Robert Riordan instead of doing this he shoots his mother and father with a sniper. Then he commits suicide in front of the people who hypnotized him. He done this while wearing his badge of honor to show there plan did not work.
We didn't watch this film already the way through because it was skipped through very fast so we didn't have time to know what exactly happened. Some of this information is from the internet because there was gaps that I could not remember.
The plot twist in this film was when he killed his father and mother at the end and then committed suicide because we thought the nominee was going to be killed but all of a sudden he does not do so.
